About the Nissan Gloria Y31
The Y31-generation Nissan Gloria, launched in 1987, marked a significant shift for the nameplate as part of Nissan's '901 Movement' to create the world's best-handling cars. While the 2.0-litre SOHC V6 (VG20E) served as the entry-level petrol engine, the Y31 was technologically advanced, featuring the world's first 5-speed automatic transmission in higher trims and a sophisticated multi-link rear suspension. It was offered in both a formal sedan body and a pillarless hardtop, the latter becoming a staple of JDM 'VIP' car culture. The Y31 sedan remained in production for fleet and taxi use long after the hardtop was replaced, finally concluding its run in 1999.
