About the Nissan Gloria S40

The second-generation Prince Gloria, known as the S40, was a landmark in Japanese luxury, moving the nameplate away from its Skyline roots into a dedicated executive class. Heavily influenced by American 'Flat Deck' styling of the era, it featured a distinctive wrap-around windshield and a sophisticated De Dion tube rear suspension, a rarity for Japanese cars of the time. While the later Super 6 gained fame for its overhead-cam straight-six, the initial 1962 models launched with the 1.9-litre G-2 four-cylinder engine carried over from the BLSI. It remains a significant piece of JDM history, representing the high-water mark of Prince Motor Company's independent engineering before its 1966 merger with Nissan.
