About the Nissan Gloria 430
The 430-generation Nissan Gloria, launched in 1979, marked a significant shift toward the 'linear' or boxy aesthetic that defined 1980s Japanese luxury. Developed with design input from Pininfarina, it moved away from the 'coke bottle' curves of its predecessor in favour of a clean, formal silhouette. While the 2.0-litre L20E inline-six provided smooth, conservative power, the 430 is most famous for introducing Japan's first production turbocharged engine later in its run. As a JDM-only executive sedan, it remains a cult favourite for enthusiasts of the 'Shakotan' and 'VIP' tuning cultures, prized for its pillarless hardtop options and robust mechanicals shared with the Nissan Cedric.

Nissan Gloria 430 fun facts
- The 430 generation was the first Japanese production car to offer a turbocharged engine, the L20ET, though the naturally aspirated 2.0 remained the volume seller.
- Despite being a Japanese domestic product, the 430's clean, straight-edged styling was heavily influenced by the Italian design house Pininfarina.
- The Gloria was sold exclusively through the 'Nissan Prince Shop' dealer network, maintaining a separate identity from its mechanical twin, the Nissan Cedric.
