About the Rover 600

Launched in 1993, the Rover 600 Series was a crucial product of the brand's partnership with Honda, sharing its platform and core engineering with the European-market Accord. The 620 SLi sits in the middle of the range, powered by a smooth 2.0-litre Honda F-Series engine that prioritised refinement over outright pace. While the exterior was a bespoke British design by Richard Woolley, the interior and mechanicals were largely Japanese, resulting in what many consider the most reliable Rover ever produced. It offered a more premium, wood-trimmed alternative to the Ford Mondeo, though it was often criticised for its somewhat cramped rear legroom.

Rover 600 fun facts

  • The Rover 600 was so closely related to the Honda Accord that it shared the same front doors, windscreen, and roof panel.
  • Unlike its predecessor, the Montego, the 600 Series was never offered as an estate, a decision that limited its appeal in the fleet market.
  • The 600 Series was built at the Cowley plant in Oxford, which today serves as the primary production site for the modern MINI.
