About the Dodge Coronet
The 1965 model year marked the return of the Coronet nameplate to the Dodge line-up, now positioned as a mid-size offering on the new B-body platform. While the high-performance Hemi models often steal the spotlight, the standard V8 versions were the backbone of Dodge's sales success, offering a balanced mix of family practicality and American V8 torque. The 318 cubic-inch 'LA' V8 provided reliable performance for the era, paired with the robust TorqueFlite automatic transmission. Its clean, squared-off styling and 117-inch wheelbase made it a popular choice for those wanting more presence than a compact Dart but less bulk than a full-size Polara.
