About the Dodge Coronet

The 1956 Dodge Coronet represented the pinnacle of Virgil Exner's 'Forward Look' design for the third generation, featuring prominent tail fins and a 12-volt electrical system. As the entry-level model in the Dodge line-up, it was available with the 'Red Ram' Polysphere V8, which provided a significant performance boost over the base six-cylinder engine. This year also introduced the innovative 'Magic Touch' push-button selector for the PowerFlite automatic transmission. While the Coronet was a family car, its V8 options and revised suspension laid the groundwork for the high-performance D-500 models that followed.
