About the Ford Galaxie
Introduced halfway through the 1959 model year, the Galaxie was the new top-tier trim for Ford, sitting above the Fairlane 500. It is most distinguished by its 'Thunderbird C-pillar', a formal, squared-off roofline that contrasted with the sweeping lines of the standard Fairlane. The 332 cubic-inch (5.4-litre) 'Interceptor' V8 provided smooth, effortless torque typical of the era's American cruisers. As a one-year-only body style for the first generation, it remains a significant piece of Ford's transition into 1960s styling.
