About the Peugeot 408

The second-generation Peugeot 408, launched in 2014, was a significant departure from its predecessor, moving to the more modern EMP2 platform shared with the 308. Primarily designed for the Chinese and Southeast Asian markets, it offered a significantly longer wheelbase than the 308 hatchback to provide class-leading rear legroom. The 1.6 THP variant utilised the 'Prince' engine developed in collaboration with BMW, providing a balance of efficiency and punchy performance. While not sold in Western Europe, it represented Peugeot's push for premium positioning in emerging markets with higher-quality interior materials and a more conservative, elegant aesthetic.
