About the Peugeot 205 Turbo 16
Built to satisfy FIA Group B homologation requirements, the 205 Turbo 16 road car shares little more than its silhouette, doors, and windscreen with the standard front-wheel-drive 205. It features a mid-mounted, transverse 1.8-litre engine and a sophisticated all-wheel-drive system with a Ferguson-type centre differential. While the road-going 'Série 200' was detuned for reliability, its lightweight spaceframe chassis and long-travel double-wishbone suspension provide exceptional handling and poise. Only 200 standard road cars were produced, almost all finished in Winchester Grey, making it one of the most sought-after rally-bred icons of the 1980s.

Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 fun facts
- To fit the mid-engine layout, the 205 T16 uses a custom rear clamshell that hinges upwards to reveal the entire powertrain and spare wheel.
- The engine was specifically sized at 1,775cc so that, with the FIA's 1.4x turbo equivalency factor, it remained under the 2,500cc limit for a lower minimum weight class.
- While 200 road cars were required for homologation, Peugeot actually built 219 units to include development prototypes and evolution models.
