About the Peugeot Type 5
The Peugeot Type 5 was a significant evolution of the earlier Type 3, featuring a shorter and lighter chassis designed to improve agility and power-to-weight. It is powered by a rear-mounted Daimler V-twin engine built under licence by Panhard et Levassor, utilizing hot-tube ignition and a four-speed sliding-gear transmission. The model gained fame for its participation in the 1894 Paris-Rouen reliability trial, widely considered the world's first motor race, where all five entered Peugeots finished. With only 14 units produced, it remains one of the rarest and most historically important survivors from the veteran era.
