About the MG Midget
The MG Midget 1500 represents the final chapter of the 'Spridget' lineage, introduced in 1974 to meet increasingly stringent US safety and emissions standards. It is most easily identified by its large energy-absorbing black rubber bumpers and a return to square rear wheel arches. Under the bonnet, the long-serving A-Series engine was replaced by a 1,493cc unit sourced from the Triumph Spitfire, paired with a fully synchromesh gearbox. While the added weight of the safety equipment affected its agility, the 1500 offered more torque and a higher top speed than its predecessors, remaining a popular entry point for classic car enthusiasts today.
