About the MG Midget Mark II
The MG Midget Mark II represented a significant leap in usability for the 'Spridget' platform, introducing wind-up windows, external door handles, and a curved windscreen. Mechanically, it moved away from the primitive quarter-elliptic rear springs of the Mark I in favour of semi-elliptic leaf springs, greatly improving ride quality and handling predictability. The 1,098cc A-Series engine was uprated with a stronger block and larger main bearings to produce 59 hp. While basic by modern standards, its low weight and direct rack-and-pinion steering provide a pure, tactile driving experience that remains a benchmark for classic sports cars.
