About the MG Metro 6R4
Developed by Williams Grand Prix Engineering, the MG Metro 6R4 was a radical departure from the humble economy car that shared its name. Built for the brutal Group B rally era, it featured a bespoke mid-mounted V64V engine and a permanent four-wheel-drive system. Unlike its turbocharged rivals, the 6R4 relied on high-revving natural aspiration for instant throttle response. The 'Clubman' homologation version offered a slightly detuned 250 hp, yet it remains one of the most visceral and raw driving experiences of the 1980s, characterised by its massive aerodynamic wings and boxy wide-body stance.
