About the MG Midget Mark I
Introduced in 1961, the MG Midget Mark I was a badge-engineered version of the Austin-Healey Sprite MkII, reviving a nameplate dormant since 1955. This early 948cc variant is the purest expression of the model, featuring a spartan interior with sliding Perspex side-screens and no external door handles. While its A-Series engine produces modest power, the Midget's featherweight 705kg construction and rack-and-pinion steering provide a visceral, go-kart-like driving experience. It remains a staple of the classic car scene due to its mechanical simplicity and exceptional parts availability.
