About the Dodge Dart
The 1963 Dodge Dart marked a pivotal shift for the brand, moving the nameplate to the compact A-body platform to replace the unsuccessful Lancer. This 'Third Generation' launch featured a longer 111-inch wheelbase than its Plymouth Valiant sibling, earning it the 'senior compact' moniker for its superior legroom and ride quality. The 225 cubic-inch 'Slant-Six' engine, canted at 30 degrees to allow for a lower hood line, became legendary for its near-indestructible nature and ease of maintenance. While later years introduced V8 muscle, the 1963 model is prized by collectors for its clean 'Straight-Line' styling and the unique push-button TorqueFlite automatic option.
