About the Dodge Dart

Introduced for the 1960 model year, the first-generation Dodge Dart was a pivotal 'downsized' full-size car designed to replace Plymouth in Dodge showrooms. Built on a 118-inch unibody platform shared with Plymouth, it offered a more agile alternative to the senior Matador and Polara models. The 5.2-litre (318 cu in) 'Red Ram' V8 was the mainstay engine, providing dependable performance for the Seneca, Pioneer, and Phoenix trims. Its massive sales success in 1960, accounting for 87% of Dodge's total volume, effectively forced the brand to pivot toward smaller, high-value vehicles.
