About the Ford Fairlane

Introduced for the 1962 model year, the fourth-generation Fairlane was a pivotal shift for Ford, moving from a full-size flagship to a new 'intermediate' segment. It was designed to bridge the gap between the compact Falcon and the full-size Galaxie, utilizing a weight-saving unibody construction. The Fairlane 500 trim added extra chrome and upgraded interior appointments, making it a popular choice for middle-class families. This generation also debuted the 'thin-wall' small-block Windsor V8, an engine architecture that would eventually power the Mustang and dominate American performance for decades.
