About the Mercedes-Benz S-Class W108
Introduced in 1967 as the updated entry-level variant of the W108 series, the 280 S replaced the earlier 250 S with a larger, more refined M130 engine. Designed by Paul Bracq, the W108 discarded the 'fintails' of its predecessor for a cleaner, more modern silhouette that defined Mercedes-Benz luxury for a generation. The 280 S utilised dual Zenith carburettors rather than the fuel injection found in the SE, offering a simpler mechanical setup while maintaining the model's legendary build quality. It features a sophisticated rear swing-axle suspension with a hydro-pneumatic compensating spring, providing a ride quality that remains impressive by modern standards.
