About the BMW 5 Series F10
The F10 generation 5 Series marked a return to more conservative, elegant styling following the radical E60 era, sharing its platform with the contemporary 7 Series. In 520d SE trim, it became the benchmark for the European executive fleet market, offering a refined cabin and class-leading fuel economy. The N47 diesel engine provides ample torque for motorway cruising, while the ZF 8-speed transmission remains one of the best automatics ever fitted to a saloon. While less agile than its predecessors due to increased weight and electric power steering, it excels as a comfortable, long-distance cruiser.

BMW 5 Series F10 fun facts
- The F10 5 Series was the first BMW to offer the Integral Active Steering system, which allows the rear wheels to turn for better high-speed stability and low-speed manoeuvrability.
- Despite being the entry-level diesel, the 520d was so popular in the UK that it frequently outsold all other 5 Series engine variants combined.
- The F10 was designed by Jacek Fröhlich under the leadership of Adrian van Hooydonk, aiming for a more 'muscular' and 'statuesque' presence than the previous generation.
