About the BMW 5 Series E39
The E39-generation 5 Series is widely regarded as the high-water mark for BMW's executive saloons, balancing mechanical purity with modern refinement. Introduced for the 2001 model year facelift, the 525i replaced the 523i and featured the updated M54 engine with double-VANOS variable valve timing. The SE (Special Equipment) trim was the quintessential UK specification, offering a softer, more comfort-oriented ride than the M Sport models. Its near-perfect 50:50 weight distribution and aluminium-intensive suspension provide a level of steering feel and chassis balance that remains a benchmark for the segment.
