About the Oldsmobile Intrigue
The Oldsmobile Intrigue was launched for the 1998 model year as a key pillar of the brand's 'import-fighter' strategy, aimed squarely at the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. Built on the GM W-body platform, it featured a more rigid structure and sophisticated suspension tuning than its Buick and Pontiac siblings, offering a surprisingly European driving feel. While the 3.8-litre '3800' Series II V6 was a carryover OHV design, it was praised for its smooth torque delivery and legendary reliability. Despite critical acclaim for its understated styling and refined road manners, the Intrigue could not save the brand, and it became the first model discontinued during Oldsmobile's phase-out.

Oldsmobile Intrigue fun facts
- The Intrigue's styling was heavily inspired by the 1995 Oldsmobile Antares concept car, which previewed the brand's new design language.
- Early production models were intentionally devoid of prominent Oldsmobile badging to distance the car from the brand's 'stodgy' image.
- The 3.8-litre V6 was actually a last-minute substitution after market research suggested the originally planned 3.4-litre engine was too unrefined for import buyers.
