About the Toyota Cresta X80

The X80-generation Toyota Cresta represents a pivotal moment in JDM history, being the first model to feature the iconic 1JZ-GTE engine. Positioned as the most formal and luxurious of the 'Mark II Three Brothers' (alongside the Chaser and Mark II), the Cresta was sold exclusively through Toyota's Vista Store network. The 2.5 GT Twin Turbo trim arrived with the August 1990 refresh, delivering the maximum 280 PS permitted by the Japanese manufacturers' 'gentleman's agreement'. While often overshadowed by its sportier Chaser sibling, the X80 Cresta is increasingly prized by collectors for its crisp, boxy 'bubble era' styling and robust tuning potential.
