About the Toyota Mega Cruiser
Developed primarily for the Japan Self-Defense Forces, the Mega Cruiser is the largest 4x4 Toyota has ever produced. While the military BXD10 variant saw wide use, the civilian BXD20 was a rare flagship sold exclusively in Japan with added creature comforts like air conditioning and a high-roof option. It features a sophisticated drivetrain including portal axles, three locking differentials, and a rear-wheel steering system that gives it a turning circle tighter than a contemporary Corolla. Despite its massive footprint, it is powered by a reliable 15B-FT turbodiesel engine designed for low-end torque rather than outright speed.
