About the Toyota Cresta X90
The X90-generation Toyota Cresta Tourer V is the luxury-oriented sibling to the Chaser and Mark II, sharing the same JZX90 chassis and the legendary 1JZ-GTE engine. While the Chaser was marketed as the aggressive sports sedan, the Cresta offered a more formal, upright aesthetic with a focus on interior refinement and comfort. Despite its executive appearance, the Tourer V trim provided serious performance hardware, including a Torsen limited-slip differential and optional R154 manual transmission. It remains a highly sought-after JDM import for its blend of 'sleeper' styling and immense tuning potential.

Toyota Cresta X90 fun facts
- The Cresta was sold exclusively through Toyota's 'Vista Store' dealership network in Japan, positioning it as a more premium alternative to the Mark II.
- The 280 PS power rating was a result of the Japanese 'Gentlemen's Agreement,' though the 1JZ-GTE was capable of much higher outputs with minor modifications.
- Unlike its siblings, the Cresta featured a unique four-window hardtop-style greenhouse that gave it a more formal silhouette compared to the Chaser.
