About the Pontiac Bonneville
The 1972 Pontiac Bonneville represents the second year of the sixth-generation B-body, a period where the model was repositioned just below the new flagship Grand Ville. Despite the industry-wide shift to SAE net power ratings and lower compression for unleaded fuel, the 455 cubic-inch (7.5L) V8 remained the standard powerhouse, delivering massive low-end torque. It features the 'Coke bottle' styling cues of the early 70s, including a prominent vertical grille and a massive 126-inch wheelbase. For collectors, the 1972 model is noted for being the last year before the introduction of federally mandated 5-mph impact bumpers, preserving its cleaner, original design lines.
