About the Pontiac GTO Judge
Introduced in late 1968 as a high-impact response to the budget-friendly Plymouth Road Runner, The Judge was a $332 performance and appearance package for the second-generation Pontiac GTO. It is instantly recognisable by its Carousel Red (bright orange) launch paint, 'The Judge' fender decals, and a prominent T-shaped rear wing. Under the functional Ram Air hood scoops sits the 400 cubic-inch V8, which in standard Ram Air III trim delivered a potent 366 hp. While originally intended as a stripped-out racer, most were ordered with high-spec options, making it a definitive collector's piece that represents the peak of Pontiac's performance swagger.

Pontiac GTO Judge fun facts
- The name was inspired by a popular comedy routine by Sammy Davis Jr. on the TV show 'Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In', featuring the catchphrase 'Here come da Judge'.
- Though Carousel Red was the signature launch colour, Pontiac eventually allowed buyers to order The Judge in any standard GTO colour later in the 1969 model year.
- The rear spoiler was actually designed to be functional, though at legal road speeds its primary purpose was purely aesthetic and psychological.
