About the Pontiac Bonneville
The 1978 Bonneville represents the second year of Pontiac's successful downsizing of its full-size B-body platform. Despite being smaller and lighter than its predecessors, it retained the brand's signature luxury and the availability of the 400 cubic-inch (6.6-litre) V8, which provided the effortless low-end torque expected of a premium American cruiser. This generation was praised for its improved handling and efficiency compared to the 'land yachts' of the early 1970s. For collectors, the 1978 model is a significant milestone as one of the final years for the traditional Pontiac-built V8 engines before corporate GM units became standard.
