About the Pontiac Bonneville
The eighth-generation Pontiac Bonneville (often referred to as the Bonneville Model G) represented a significant shift for the nameplate, moving from the full-size B-body to the mid-size G-body platform shared with the Buick Regal and Oldsmobile Cutlass. This transition was a response to the early 1980s fuel crisis, resulting in a car that was nearly 300kg lighter and significantly shorter than its predecessor. While it lost the grand proportions of the 1970s models, it retained the classic rear-wheel-drive layout and plush American sedan ride quality. The 3.8-litre Buick-sourced V6 was the standard powerplant, offering modest performance but improved efficiency for the era.
