About the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution V
The Lancer Evolution V marked a significant shift for Mitsubishi, introducing the wider, flared-arch bodywork that would define the series for years. Built to meet Group A rally homologation rules, it featured a wider track, larger 17-inch OZ Racing wheels, and upgraded Brembo brakes. The 4G63 engine was officially rated at 280 PS to satisfy the Japanese 'Gentlemen's Agreement', though its increased torque and revised turbocharger suggested a higher actual output. It remains a favourite among collectors for its raw, mechanical feel and its direct link to Tommi Mäkinen's WRC dominance.
