About the Hillman Minx Magnificent

The Hillman Minx 'Magnificent' was a significant evolution of the original 1932 Minx, featuring a more rounded, streamlined body and a stiffened chassis. Its most notable technical achievement was the introduction of an all-synchromesh four-speed gearbox, a world first for a mass-market vehicle, which greatly simplified driving for the average motorist. The engine was moved forward in the chassis to improve passenger legroom, reflecting the Rootes Group's focus on family comfort. While performance from the 1185cc side-valve engine was modest, the car's reliability and modern features made it one of Britain's most popular family saloons of the pre-war era.
