About the Hillman Avenger Tiger

The Hillman Avenger Tiger was developed by Chrysler Competitions Centre as a limited-edition model to promote the Avenger's rallying success. Based on the 1500 GT, it featured a modified cylinder head and twin Weber carburettors, significantly increasing power over the standard unit. The Series 1 is instantly recognisable by its Sundance Yellow paint, matt black bonnet, and prominent rear spoiler. It offered genuine performance for its era, serving as a bridge between standard family saloons and full-blown competition cars.

Hillman Avenger Tiger fun facts

  • The Tiger was produced in two distinct series; the Series 1 lacked the round headlights found on the later Series 2 models.
  • Despite its performance pretensions, the Tiger retained the standard Avenger's four-door body shell to keep production costs down.
  • It is estimated that fewer than 30 genuine examples of the original 600 produced survive today, making it one of the rarest British 'hot' saloons.
