About the Hillman Minx Audax

The Hillman Minx Series I, introduced in 1956, marked the debut of the 'Audax' generation, featuring a contemporary three-box design influenced by the Rootes Group's relationship with American designer Raymond Loewy. It replaced the ageing Phase VIII and utilised a 1390cc overhead-valve engine that provided respectable performance for its era. The Series I is distinguished by its smaller rear window and lack of the side chrome flashes seen on later Audax models. As a staple of 1950s British motoring, it offered a blend of reliability and transatlantic style that proved highly successful in export markets.
