About the Hillman Husky Series I-III
The Series II Hillman Husky, introduced in 1960, was a short-wheelbase estate based on the 'Audax' Series Hillman Minx. It featured a side-hinged rear door and a folding rear bench, effectively serving as a precursor to the modern hatchback by offering van-like utility in a passenger car footprint. The Series II brought significant improvements over the Series I, including a four-speed gearbox, a deeper windscreen, and a slightly lowered roofline. While its 1.4-litre OHV engine was detuned compared to the contemporary Minx to prioritise economy, its light weight ensured it remained a practical and dependable workhorse for 1960s Britain.
