About the Hillman Husky Imp
The Imp-based Hillman Husky was a three-door estate built from April 1967 to July 1970, using the Commer Imp van's pressings with side windows, a rear seat and a roof raised 4 inches above the saloon's. It kept the Imp's rear-mounted 875 cc all-aluminium overhead-camshaft engine, rated at 39 bhp at 5,000 rpm, driving the rear wheels through a four-speed all-synchromesh gearbox. A spring-balanced, top-hinged tailgate opened onto a high, unobstructed load floor above the engine, with 25 cu ft of space or 50 cu ft with the rear seat folded, while uprated rear springs and dampers plus standard radial tyres suited it to carrying loads. Autocar recorded a 76 mph mean maximum and 0-60 mph in 24.2 seconds, 1.2 seconds quicker than the Super Imp saloon. Production ended as Chrysler, the new owner of Rootes, rationalised the range.
