About the Ford Taurus
The fourth-generation Taurus arrived as a direct response to the controversial 'oval' styling of its predecessor, adopting a more conservative 'New Edge' design to win back mainstream American buyers. While it shared the D186 platform with the previous model, it featured a taller roofline for improved headroom and a significantly larger trunk. The 3.0-litre Vulcan V6 remained the workhorse engine, valued more for its 'bulletproof' reliability than its performance. Though it briefly regained sales momentum, this generation marked the end of the original Taurus lineage before the nameplate was briefly retired in favour of the Fusion and Five Hundred.
