About the Ford GT40 Mk I

The GT40 programme began as Ford’s bid to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans after talks with Ferrari collapsed. The 4.7-litre Mk I was the original competition design, with a low mid-engine layout and British-developed chassis. Larger-engined Mk IIs won in 1966; revised Mk Is subsequently won Le Mans in 1968 and 1969. An original competition car is a visceral, noisy racing machine, not a modern road-going Ford GT.
