About the MG MG6

Launched in 2011, the MG6 marked the return of the MG marque to the UK market under the ownership of SAIC Motor. Engineered at Longbridge, it was praised for its sharp handling and generous equipment levels, though it struggled against established rivals due to dated interior plastics and high CO2 emissions. The 1.8-litre TCI-Tech engine is a turbocharged evolution of the long-running Rover K-series, providing respectable mid-range punch. While it won the 2014 BTCC Manufacturers' Championship, road car sales remained low, making it a rare sight on UK roads today.

MG MG6 fun facts

  • The MG6's top speed was electronically limited to 120 mph (193 km/h) specifically to secure a lower insurance group rating in the UK.
  • It features a unique 'Z-shaped' handbrake design that became notorious among owners for being difficult to operate without pinching one's thumb.
  • The car is based on the Roewe 550, which itself was developed from the Rover 75's platform architecture.
