About the Ford Capri RS3100 Mk1
The RS3100 was the final and most potent evolution of the Mk1 Capri, developed by Ford Advanced Vehicle Operations (AVO) to homologate the car for Group 2 racing against the BMW 3.0 CSL. It features an overbored 3.1-litre version of the Essex V6 engine and distinctive aerodynamics, most notably the 'ducktail' rear spoiler which significantly improved high-speed stability. Launched during the 1973 oil crisis, its high price and the imminent arrival of the Mk2 Capri made it a difficult sell when new, resulting in a tiny production run. Today, it is one of the most sought-after 'Fast Fords', prized for its rarity, racing pedigree, and raw, analogue driving experience.
