About the Ford LTD
Introduced for the 1965 model year, the Ford LTD (Luxury Trim Decor) represented a shift in the American market, offering high-end features previously reserved for luxury brands like Lincoln or Cadillac. It was based on the redesigned full-size Galaxie 500 chassis, featuring a new perimeter frame and a smoother coil-spring rear suspension. The 289 cubic-inch (4.7L) V8 was the entry-level eight-cylinder engine, providing adequate power for a car focused on quietness and ride quality. Its success effectively created the 'affordable luxury' segment, leading to competitors like the Chevrolet Caprice.
