About the BMW M3 F80
The F80 generation marked a significant pivot for the M3, introducing turbocharging to the nameplate for the first time and splitting the coupe and convertible models off into the M4 range. Powered by the S55 twin-turbo straight-six, it delivered a massive jump in mid-range torque compared to its high-revving V8 predecessor. The chassis featured extensive use of carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP), including a carbon roof and a distinctive CFRP strut brace. While early cars were criticised for a spikey power delivery, the F80 is now respected as a highly capable, practical performance saloon with a muscular stance and immense tuning potential.
