About the BMW M3 E36

The E36 M3 Evolution, introduced in late 1995, represented the peak of the second-generation M3's development. It featured the S50B32 engine, the first BMW production unit to exceed 100 hp per litre, and a new six-speed Getrag manual gearbox. While the North American market received a detuned 240 hp version, the European 'Evolution' model offered a significant performance leap with Double-VANOS variable valve timing. Its balanced chassis and more understated styling compared to the E30 made it a benchmark for the modern sports coupé.
