About the Vauxhall Astra J
The sixth-generation Astra, known as the Astra J, marked a significant step up in interior quality and refinement for Vauxhall, borrowing styling cues and switchgear from the larger Insignia. In SRi trim, the car received a lowered sports chassis and more supportive seating, positioning it as a more engaging alternative to the standard hatchback. The 1.4-litre turbocharged engine was a highlight of the range, offering a more flexible power delivery than the older naturally aspirated units while maintaining competitive fuel economy. Though heavier than some rivals, the Astra J is noted for its composed ride and the clever 'Watt's linkage' rear suspension which improves lateral stability without the complexity of a full multi-link setup.
