About the Triumph Spitfire Mk3
Introduced in 1967, the Mk3 represented the first major evolution of Giovanni Michelotti's iconic roadster design. It featured a raised front bumper to meet new safety regulations and a significantly improved folding soft-top that replaced the cumbersome 'packaway' roof of earlier models. Under the clamshell bonnet sat a new 1,296cc engine derived from the Triumph 1300, providing a welcome boost in power and making it the quickest Spitfire of the 1960s. While it retained the characteristic swing-axle rear suspension, the Mk3 is widely considered by collectors to be the sweet spot of the range, blending classic styling with improved usability.
