About the Triumph Spitfire Mk2
Introduced in March 1965, the Triumph Spitfire Mk2 refined the formula of the original 'Spitfire 4' with a more potent engine and improved interior comfort. Its 1147cc engine received a revised camshaft and tubular exhaust manifold, boosting output to 67 bhp and providing a more spirited driving experience. The Giovanni Michelotti-designed body remained largely unchanged, though a new horizontal-bar grille and exterior badges distinguished the Mk2. Inside, the basic rubber mats were replaced by full carpeting and more supportive seats, addressing criticisms of the Mk1's utilitarian cabin. Today, the Mk2 is highly prized by collectors for its pure 'round-tail' aesthetics and simple, Herald-based mechanicals.
