About the Triumph TR5
The Triumph TR5 PI is a significant evolution of the Michelotti-styled TR4A, notable for being the first British production sports car to feature petrol injection. Produced for only 13 months, it combined the elegant, slim-bumpered aesthetic of the earlier cars with the potent 2.5-litre straight-six engine that would later define the TR6. Its Lucas mechanical fuel injection system provided a substantial performance boost over the carburetted TR250 sold in North America, making it a highly coveted 'sweet spot' for collectors. The driving experience is quintessentially British, offering a physical, torque-rich ride supported by independent rear suspension.

- While the TR5 produced 150 hp with fuel injection, the US-market TR250 was restricted to just 104 hp due to emissions regulations and the use of twin carburetors.
- The Lucas mechanical fuel injection system was so advanced for its time that Triumph's brochure proudly claimed it as a first for a British production sports car.
