About the Renault Twingo Mk1
Launched at the 1992 Paris Motor Show, the first-generation Twingo became a design icon for its 'monospace' silhouette and expressive 'smiling' front end. Designed under Patrick Le Quément, it maximised interior space using a sliding rear bench that could either expand the boot or provide executive-level legroom. The 1997 model features the updated 1,149cc 'D-Type' engine which replaced the original Cleon-Fonte unit, offering improved efficiency and refinement. Despite its popularity in mainland Europe, the Mk1 Twingo was never produced in right-hand drive, making it a rare and quirky import in the UK.
