About the Fiat Punto 188
The second-generation Fiat Punto, codenamed Project 188, was launched in 1999 to celebrate Fiat's centenary, featuring a more angular design than its predecessor. The 1.2 Active served as a core entry-level trim, powered by the reliable 8-valve 'FIRE' engine known for its ease of maintenance and city-friendly torque. It famously introduced the 'Dualdrive' electric power steering system, which included a 'City' button to lighten the steering for low-speed manoeuvres. While not a performance car, its lightweight chassis and clever packaging made it a staple of European roads and a popular choice for first-time drivers.
