About the Porsche 911 997
The 997-generation Carrera S marked a significant return to traditional 911 styling, ditching the controversial 'fried egg' headlights of the 996. It introduced a larger 3.8-litre engine and standard Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), offering a more focused driving experience than the base Carrera. Collectors prize the 997.1 for its hydraulic steering and mechanical purity before the shift to direct injection and electric racks. While the M97 engine requires monitoring for bore scoring and IMS issues, a well-maintained manual Coupe is widely considered the definitive modern classic 911.
