About the Fiat Argenta
Launched in 1981 as a comprehensive update to the Fiat 132, the Argenta served as the brand's flagship executive saloon during a transitional period. It was the last mass-produced Fiat saloon to feature a rear-wheel-drive layout before the company pivoted to front-wheel-drive platforms like the Croma. The 2000 trim utilised the legendary Lampredi twin-cam engine, though the car was often criticised for its dated underpinnings and boxy, upright styling. Today, it is a rare sight on European roads, valued by collectors as a quirky representative of 1980s Italian executive motoring.

Fiat Argenta fun facts
- The Argenta's doors were identical to those of its predecessor, the Fiat 132, but the handles were swapped to opposite sides, making them appear to open 'backwards'.
- In 1984, Fiat supplied 400 Argentas to China for government use, marking one of the largest early trade agreements between a Western carmaker and the Chinese authorities.
- The name 'Argenta' is derived from the Latin word for silver, 'argentum', following Fiat's shift from numerical to name-based branding in the early 1980s.
