About the Ford Orion Mk1
Launched in 1983, the Ford Orion was a three-box saloon version of the Mk3 Escort, designed to appeal to traditional buyers mourning the loss of the Cortina. The 1.6i Ghia sat at the top of the range, sharing the Bosch K-Jetronic fuel-injected CVH engine with the Escort XR3i. It offered a more discreet, 'grown-up' alternative to the hot hatch, featuring luxury touches like central locking, electric windows, and a sunroof as standard. Today, Mk1 Orions are significantly rarer than their Escort siblings, with the fuel-injected Ghia being the most sought-after series production variant.
